Rules introduced in October 2006 replaced most existing fire safety legislation in Wales, Scotland and England. Fire certificates are no longer required, and the emphasis is on preventing fires and reducing risk.
Anyone who has some control over premises (‘responsible person’) must take reasonable steps to reduce the risk from fire and make sure people can safely escape if there is a fire. Pritchard Security is able to undertake vital Fire Risk Assessments on commercial properties across the UK.
Under these new rules employers need to ensure that a Fire Risk Assessment is undertaken by a competent person. It is important to note that employers are solely responsible for all issues relating to fire safety within their workplace.
When the rules were introduced on 1st October 2006 the general requirements were:
• Fire fighting equipment
• Signage
• Training of employees
• Emergency escape routes and exits
• Maintenance of fire fighting equipment, alarms etc.
• Record-keeping
Pritchard Security has a dedicated team of Fire Risk Assessors who have all been trained to the Institute of Fire Engineers regulations.
Teamed with many years’ experience and our continual professional development programme, Pritchard ensures that all clients can be assured the best level of service at all times.
